This town house was one of Sønderborg’s most stately buildings, and the only private building mentioned in J.P. Trap’s description of the town in 1862. It had been built by Duke Ernst Günther in the first half of the 17th century, but in 1864 it was owned by Doctor F.E. Gade.

Like the other buildings around it, the town house was so severely damaged in the bombardment that it was subsequently pulled down. Today, all that remains is that part of the original garden wall facing Mariegade.
