A view north along the middle section of Perlegade, roughly where it is crossed today by Jernbanegade. During the bombardment in the first weeks of April, this was about the limit of the range of the Prussian guns. In the middle of the street walks a group of Danish soldiers on patrol. The Royal Life Guards were ordered to keep watch in what was almost and empty town; there were those who could not withstand the temptation offered by the many houses abandoned by their owners, who had sought safety elsewhere.
